Solar energy is one of the fastest growing industries and is anticipated to become the largest source of energy in the coming decades. The Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is Singapore’s national institute for applied solar energy research. SERIS conducts industry-oriented research and development as well as use inspired basic research in the field of solar energy conversion. The institute collaborates closely with industry and academia.

Program Details
  • Research on high-efficiency p-type mono-silicon wafer solar cells and related device characterisation
  • Perform design-of-experiments (DOE) to optimize p-n junction formation, layer etch-back, and surface
  • passivation to achieve high power conversion efficiency
  • Investigate and mitigate light-induced degradation of the solar cells
  • Perform opto-electrical characterization (for example photo- and electroluminescence) and electrical testing (I-V,C-V) of high-efficiency p-type mono-Si cells
  • Structural characterization (SEM, TEM, AFM, XRD)
  • Review of current literature
  • Publication of research results in international scientific journals
  • Presentation of research findings at international conferences 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Materials Science/Physics
  • At least 6 months of research experience (Honours/Masters)
  • Knowledge of silicon photovoltaics or microelectronics processes is preferred but not necessary
  • Required to work in semiconductor cleanroom and characterisation labs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (in English) skills required
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
